Do You Have the Guts to Interview Realtors?

I’m sure there are more, but here is a short list of categories:

  • First-time homebuyer
  • Second-time homebuyer
  • Real estate investors
  • New construction
  • Relocation
  • Buyer-only representation
  • Listings only
  • Short sales
  • Foreclosures
  • Luxury homes
  • Specific type of buyer – Divorcing couples, gay, lesbian, military
  • Farm area

Most agents don’t concentrate on just ONE category, but there certainly are one or two of them where they are GOOD or get at least 1/3 of their business from one of the niches mentioned above.

So here are some of the questions you could ask them to determine which category you would file them under in your “real estate agent referral rolodex.”

  1. How would you describe your ideal client?
    1. If they say “everyone,” beware. If they don’t have one or two specialties, you may not want to continue the interview. They have no “focus” or “strategy” in their business, and you may not want to do business with them…
