Do You Look Down or Do You Look Up?

Do you look at the ground when you walk?

Do you look a few feet ahead?

Do you focus on a distant destination?

I was going for a walk the other day, and I realized that I mostly look at the ground.  It may be because I have an issue with balance and have to put one foot in front of the other.

However, I was also thinking that when looking down, I find things.  Money. Nails that could cause a flat tire.  Insects and snakes.  The result being that if I look ahead, I would miss the small, minute items that make a difference.

However, looking ahead has its benefits, too.  You see the sights along the way. You observe the surrounding territory.  And you are focused on reaching your destination.

Reflecting on the options, I have come to the conclusion that you have to do both!

If you are a person who looks down when you walk, stop every so often and look around you.

If you are a person who looks ahead, stop every so often and look down to see what you have missed.

Do you look down or up when you walk?
