My Grandmother’s Note Pad

As I was strolling through the grocery store, I came across the small school supply section on the cleaning supplies aisle and something immediately grabbed my attention.

There was this little 6” x 9” 100-sheet ruled writing tablet, just like the one my grandmother used.  A flood of memories immediately surfaced and I stood there for a moment to enjoy it.

I could see it clearly.

Mamaw would sit down at the kitchen table with her Bic pen and writing tablet and begin writing letters to her rarely seen family that lived far away.  This only happened after the kitchen was clean, her chores were finished and her mind was clear to write.  Mamaw was left handed, but as a child in the early 1900’s, being left handed was considered improper.  She was forced to write with her right hand which developed into a beautiful and unique penmanship unlike anyone else’s.
