The Road Not Taken

Do you remember reading this poem in school?

I do, and it had a huge impact on how I am living my life.

When I wanted to transition from a closing agent to a loan officer, I was told “women don’t work on commission—they need a stable income”.  So I quit and went to work at another mortgage company who embraced me.

When I started my own mortgage company, my competitors told people that “women don’t own mortgage companies” and that I would go bankrupt in 6 months.

When I did the first online mortgage seminars in 2002, I was told it would never work.  We had over 200 loan officer attend the very first one.

I recently ran across this poem by Robert Frost and wanted to share it with you as a reminder that taking the less traveled road could “make all the difference”.

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN
BY ROBERT FROST

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
and sorry I could not travel both
and be one traveler, long I stood
and looked down one as far as I could
to where it bent in the undergrowth.

Then took the other, as just as fair,
and having perhaps the better claim,
because it was grassy and wanted wear;
though as for that the passing there
had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet, knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I –
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
